Deb Dana shares that the three elements of well-being are context, choice, and connection. They are necessary in totality for regulation.
Context is how, what, why. If it is muddy, we feel unsafe and may move toward dorsal vagal.
Choice is to be still or move, approach or avoid, connect or protect. If we have limited choices or no choices, we feel stuck and may move toward sympathetic.
Connect is relationship with the four domains of self, people and pets, nature and the world, and spirit which allows us to move toward ventral vagal.
